Accessory Styling

Do you ever get overwhelmed when it comes to decorating/styling your bookshelves and table tops? We love helping our clients style and accessorize their shelves and surfaces! Recently we loaded up our cars and took a lot of pretty things over to one of our favorite houses to ‘fluff’. It was so much fun not only for us to watch the room become complete, but also for the clients, who love to see it transformed right before their eyes! When we left she emailed me that she couldn’t believe her living room had been totally accessorized by us in under two hours!

I really love when homes look collected over time, and have a hard time going out to buy items at big box stores to decorate with just to add something on a shelf. I like accessories to have some purpose and sentiment. When it came to these shelves we collected quite a few things from various antique and thrift stores. I mixed high and low, for example some of the higher priced items were alabaster grapes and an antique French confit pot. We found inexpensive old books at a local thrift store along with odd pieces of old china.

Unfortunately I forgot to snap a picture of one of the tables, but we layered an antique gold mirror against the wall with a vintage floral painting in front of it. The French confit pot worked perfectly on its own on the right side to the table, and it can be used as a great vase when entertaining.

On the coffee table we stacked lots of big books, they all have beautiful photography and interesting subjects. We added an orchid in an old pot with a green patina that is easy to maintain. There is a faux tortise tray with a candle and some pretty monogrammed cocktail napkins.

We found a pair of Swedish cabinets at Round Top a couple of years ago that flank a big front window. Now they are full of old books, English China, black and white family photos, an old Italian leather box, a Chinese blue and white ginger jar and other pieces of small Japanese pottery. Don’t forget bookends! I loved adding the coral for another pop of color.

All of our projects are in different phases at the moment, but this one was particularly fun to watch unfold because it felt so homey and finished after all of these pretty items were installed!
