West 11th Place
While designing this historical registered home for a young couple in Houston, designer Meg Lonergan found herself drawn to their desire to collect pieces in a thoughtful and eclectic way. Inspired by one of their favorite cities—New Orleans—in which they were married just as this project began, the home feels vibrant and energetic, with a sense of history and layers.

The dining room is a wonderful example. Anchored by a mahogany French neoclassical dining table (purchased from Karla Katz in New Orleans), the room is lined in an overscaled stripe that whimsically carries across the piano. Art by Donald Martiny and local artist Michael Von Helms energizes.

Bold color, feminine details and vintage finds are found throughout the house. An Anja Niemi photograph holds court in the living room; melding beautifully with 1940s Italian chairs upholstered in a gutsy Pierre Frey velvet, an ornate three-panel iron screen inspired by the Francesco Scavullo piece above the fireplace, and streamlined Swedish stools.

In the stairwell, Lonergan included the homeowners’ collection of photographs of actor Jon Hamm by the husband’s cousin, portrait photographer Nigel Parry. Shot at Chateau Marmont—where the couple honeymooned—the series is both irreverent and sentimental. An homage to this one-of-a-kind home.
