I’m a little late on this one, I’m always late, hence the name of this blog. But better late than never right? I would like to honor this year’s Memorial Day with this photo of my paternal grandparents. Judge and Mrs. Leon J. LeSueur. Aren’t they adorable? They are in England in this picture, 1945, in their wartime uniforms. He was young man from the cane fields of south Louisiana, leading soldiers in France. He was sent to a hospital in England after a bullet fragment hit him in the face. It was there he met a pretty young woman from Boston, she was a nurse at the hospital where he was recovering. They fell in love, and got married there. The chief nurse was their witness, she wrote letters back to his mother telling her what a fine young lady he had fallen in love with. He had never been to Boston, she had never been to Louisiana, but they remained married for the next 60 years. They met and fell in love while serving our country. Isn’t it romantic?
